The Discovery Chorus, founded in 2006 and directed by Sandy Roney, is an auditioned chorus of third grade singers. This is a training choir and the performance schedule is not as extensive as the schedule for the other youth choirs in the organization. Through the use of diverse, quality literature, singers will learn beginning choral techniques including breath control, unified natural tone, vocal posture, choral music reading and notation, rhythmic studies, and ensemble singing. Singers must demonstrate responsible behavior and individual commitment to a learning experience.
Sandy Roney is an experienced music educator teaching music to children from kindergarten through high school in Washington State. She has also adjudicated in Montana States Junior and Senior High Solo/Ensemble Contest. Sandy has had the honor of directing a 640-voice high school combined small school choral festival for the Panorama Music Festival on several occasions. Until recently she has served as the choral director for her church and also for 14 years she has been the director and founder of a 5 octave handbell and choir chimes choir at the same church. She is currently teaching private music lessons specializing in voice, guitar, violin and cello. Sandy sings with the Rogue Valley Chorale.
